SC Engineers served as the Mechanical Engineer of Record for this project that provides a satellite fire station as well as a Chemical Storage Room at Edwards Air Force Base (EAFB), CA. EAFB is the host for the 412th Test Wing which conducts, analyzes, and reports on all flights and ground testing of aircraft, weapons systems, software, modeling, and simulation of the U. S. Air Force (USAF). This facility serves as the primary fire station supporting airfield operations.
The fire station contains approximately 39,000 SF of building area. The apparatus sections include a five-bay section for aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicles and an eight-bay section for structural and small vehicles. The center section includes 20 dormitory rooms, a kitchen, dining and living rooms for firefighters, a fitness room, department training and testing rooms, offices, a dispatch station, an infectious disease control room, personal protective equipment (PPE) gear storage, laundry rooms and protective clothing and disinfection space, a chemical storage room for aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) agent storage, and other support spaces.
