SC Engineers served as the Mechanical Engineer of Record, providing engineering services to provide a temporary Federal Medical Station located on Floors 10 and 11 of the Palomar Medical Center Escondido, an acute care hospital, to accommodate the influx of COVID-19 patients. The project provided design and construction of a 250-bed unit within an accelerated two-week timeframe.

SC Engineers, working with the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), also assisted Palomar Health at both their Escondido and Poway Medical Center acute care campuses in setting up makeshift negative pressure patient rooms in response to COVID-19. SC Engineers' recommendations and lessons learned from the experience were captured in an ASHRAE Journal July 2020 article which can be viewed here.
